Winter just keeps coming. The snow was almost finally melted and then…it started snowing again. The kids have a virtual school day today. It should melt quickly, as the temperature is supposed to hit the 50s by next weekend. But still…
It was another full weekend. On Friday night, while the 16-year-old did tech for a school production, the other 5 of us went to The Melting Pot. I had never been to this restaurant before, but the 14-year-old requested it (she had previously gone with friends). It was good! I have not eaten melted cheese in a while, given my dairy issues, but I decided to throw caution to the wind. We liked the Alpine cheese blend the best (I especially liked this with apples) and the “original” dessert fondue which includes…chunky peanut butter. Dipping Rice Krispie treats in that was just bliss.
Saturday I got up and ran with my friend Jane on the trail by the river. It was a little icy when we started but warmed up quickly. Then she and I went to McDonald’s for coffee after. I like this addition to our runs!
(Before I took off to meet her I saw two foxes out the window, just playing with each other in the snow. It’s not like we’re out in the wilderness, so this was a surprise bit of wildlife viewing!)
In the afternoon, I took the 11-year-old ice skating. He chose this over other activities (the 16-year-old and my husband had gone skiing) and while the ice rink had many huge puddles (it was 45 degrees out) it was still fun. I love swirling around the ice under a winter sky.
I took my daughter for a haircut and to Starbucks, and then I went to a potluck dinner hosted by a choir member. I planned to get something from the grocery store, but when I went to stop by, every single parking spot was taken! I guess people were panic buying before the storm. So I brought wine, beer, and Girl Scout cookies, since I had those in the house (what do you bring to potlucks?).
Sunday was the usual mix of church, and tennis lessons, and a stop by the library before the storm got bad. Then, upon learning that school would be virtual the next day I got started on most of my to-do list for Monday. The 6-year-old needs supervision, so…best to plan on not much work happening.
But the snow is pretty! I walked around Sunday night and wow. We still have the Christmas lights up (they are white and tasteful, so I think of them as “winter lights”) because the lighting company couldn’t get the wires out from under the ice for the past month. Then they were supposed to come this week but…we shall see. The lights look nice in the snow!
