Welcome to the September Reset Time Tracking Challenge!

Good morning to everyone who is tracking time this week! We have a big crew signed up and perhaps some more will join us today. The sign-up will remain open until afternoon.

How does this work? We’re tracking time from 5 a.m. this morning until 5 a.m. on the morning of September 21. Knowing where the time goes is the first step to spending it better. If you’ve been curious about time tracking, this is a great week to give it a whirl! People who sign up will get daily motivational emails. They’ll also have the opportunity to work through several surveys/question prompts to help think about their schedules and particularly their evenings.

I’ll be posting how I’m spending my time every day this week. Feel free to follow along whether you’re tracking time or not. You can grab a time log here. (Just scroll down to Step 2 to download a log; if you use Google sheets, follow the instructions to save a copy to your own drive). Set an alarm or some other reminder to check in 3-4 times a day, and write down what you’ve done since the last check in. That’s all there is to it! At the end you can add up categories if you want, or just analyze what you see.

I promise it’s not that hard. I’ll post later today with how I spent Monday for folks who want to see that.

In the meantime, it was a reasonably full September weekend, though we haven’t even started a lot of the sports yet. There was a first baseball practice, an anniversary dinner (omakase at Ogawa – fun!) and taking the kids to Melting Pot to celebrate the start of the school year. There was rally day at church (and the start of church choir for me), playdates, and multiple scouts (Cub Scouts and older kid Scouts). The 6-year-old really liked his Tiger Den — probably because we mostly played at the local playground on a gorgeous day after the rain stopped.

Anyway, lots going on this week but you’ll hear about that day by day. Here’s to a great week of time tracking!
