Best of Both Worlds podcast: Date night updates, atlas of obscure facts, and more

Best of Both Worlds podcast

Today’s episode of Best of Both Worlds is something of a hodge podge. We open with a discussion of date nights. Sarah wanted to go more regularly (possible in the post-requiring-a-babysitter phase!). Did she succeed? I talk about my husband and my recent outings — we’ve done more of a once-a-month cadence, but something bigger and a little different than just going out to eat.

We then each share five of our favorite obscure facts. You may not be surprised that Sarah’s center around height and lightning, while mine have an ancient-earth bent…or deal with time.

Finally, we take a question from.a recent Patreon discussion. A listener is in a stressful tech job and is pregnant with her second. Would it make sense to take a 2-year break at this point or are the trade-offs going to be too great? We talk about all the things to consider (including that many career breaks wind up being a lot longer than people anticipate). I appreciated Sarah’s point that while staying home is often portrayed as something one does for the benefit of kids, as kids get older they often want to do things and have experiences that cost money — and having two incomes can often make that easier to handle. Food for thought!

Please give the episode a listen. As always we welcome ratings and reviews. We had an excellent discussion on Zoom with our Patreon community yesterday about Big Time and time in general. Membership is $9/month and we’d love to have you join us.
