Happy Friday everyone! My oldest is celebrating his 19th birthday this weekend. It is strange not to be with him for his birthday for the first time, but I’m sure he will be having a good time in London. I am singing in a concert this weekend and my daughter has her confirmation events.
I finally got to read the (paywalled) Bloomberg piece about Big Time, and it was great. Various quotes: “It’s a slim guide with a tantalizingly simple premise: We don’t have to fight to win back time; we already have it. We just need to find it.”
“Vanderkam is more of an optimist and optimizer. Through organization, we absolutely can and should do more, she argues. It’s abundance through efficiency.”
“A carefully kept spreadsheet won’t solve the problem of technologies designed to hook the human brain. But Vanderkam’s book is full of practical and genuinely helpful suggestions to at least get started.” I will take practical and genuinely helpful!
Manoush Zomorodi, my book birthday twin, ran a Q&A with me on her Substack called “A guide to planning better breaks.”
I wrote a review for the WSJ of David Epstein’s book Inside the Box — that ran yesterday (also paywalled). I guess the three of us are book birthday triplets!
Over at Before Breakfast this week I interviewed Simone Stolzoff about his new book How Not To Know. I know a lot of readers here read his previous book The Good Enough Job, so be sure to check this interview (and his new book!) out.
Over at Vanderhacks, my Substack newsletter, I’m writing about why you should “Keep coming back to it.” Creative projects tend to benefit from frequent visits over long periods of time. Time can be a great creative partner! Behind the paywall, I’m writing about “9 little changes that will save you time all summer.” Please consider a free or paid subscription.
If you haven’t picked up a copy of Big Time yet, please do! Links to order at this page. If you have bought a copy, would you please write a review for Amazon (or wherever you bought the book) and/or Goodreads? I would really appreciate it!
