Good evening to everyone who has been tracking their time today. Well over 2000 people signed up, so that is pretty exciting.
I promised I’d post my logs here, so here we go.
My time logs start Monday at 5 a.m. but I was not up then. I woke up on my own at 6:20 a.m., went back to sleep, and woke with my alarm at 6:40 a.m. I showered, dressed, and woke my daughter at 7. The 10-year-old was already up as he’d crashed before 8 p.m. the night before. I spent about 15 minutes cleaning the kitchen (because I was really irritated to see it a mess…) then got the kids’ breakfasts, ate my breakfast, etc. I woke the 16-year-old up at 7:25.
The middle schoolers left with my husband at 7:30, right around when our nanny (B) came to work. I talked with her for a few minutes, and was at my desk at 7:45 (she got the other two out the door). I worked on my blog post to 8:30 (guess it was a long one), sent some emails to 8:45, then worked on the Before Breakfast podcast to 11 a.m. This involved writing 4 scripts, editing them and practicing reading them, then recording the four of them, sending in the files sound and adjusting the line-up spreadsheet.
Then at 11 a.m. I began working on Vanderhacks for the week of Jan 26-30 (I work about 2 weeks ahead). I worked on these posts to 11:45 a.m., at which point my husband, who was working from home, told me he was going to eat lunch. So I joined him until 12:10, more or less. I worked for another 10 minutes (email), then got changed into my exercise clothes.
I worked out with my trainer (virtually) from 12:30-1:10 (including a little at the end on my own), then I changed and did my hair and was back at work at 1:20. I kept working on Vanderhacks until 2:30, getting 4/5 done for the week.
At 2:30 p.m. I got in the car to head to the high school to pick up my son. I got there 2:40, and he was in the car around 2:50 (early dismissal). We drove to a doctor’s appointment about 20 minutes away. We checked in, and saw the doc until about 3:35. Then we got gas in the car (I taught him how to do this) and he drove home 3:45-4:15 (more traffic at that point…). The entrance to the highway was slightly exciting (I blame GPS, it told us to get in the wrong lane) but we made it.
At that point I did 30 more minutes of work, finishing my Vanderhacks for the week, while listening to Mozart (I’m just going chronologically on that project). I elected to go for a 15-minute walk while it was still light out (with Mozart playing on my phone), and was back at my desk around 5.
At this point I did some work/some email, with a digression to try to order yearbooks for my middle schoolers, which didn’t work at first. So frustrating. I answered a few more emails and read through this week’s BOBW pod notes. At 6 I stopped to go finish making dinner (pasta; B had started it). I called the kids and we ate to about 6:30 with the 10-year-old on dish duty. None of the other three kids would let him forget it was his night.
Now I am posting this. My Golden Hour intentions are 30 minutes of puzzle and 15 minutes of piano. If I have time to read I will either page through Good Housekeeping mag or through this coffee table book on creative spaces I got from the library. Hope your time tracking has gone well!
