My 11-year-old’s Sunday baseball game was rained out again! We have had seriously bad luck with Sundays being rainy. We are now 0-3 on the schedule for actually getting to play. The 6-year-old got to play his baseball game on Saturday at least.
Despite the rainout, it was a pretty full weekend from my perspective. On Friday night I drove a group of girls to Topgolf for my now 15-year-old’s birthday celebration. They played the golf games for two hours and ate various party foods. Then I drove most of them back to the house for a sleepover. They were a little loud at the beginning but it got better when they were watching a movie, and I managed to sleep OK (through to 8 a.m.!)
I made everyone pancakes, including for one of the 11-year-old’s friends, who got dropped off early. (We were missing the 17-year-old, who was off at his own slumber party elsewhere). Various people got picked up and then I drove downtown to the fall retreat for Choral Arts Philadelphia. It was basically just an extra rehearsal, but we got through a lot (meanwhile my husband took the 6-year-old to flag football and a birthday party).
After, I stopped at Target to get a few more birthday presents for my daughter. I’d bought the big things but I know she likes to get some little wrapped things too. Then we made a Starbucks run, then I took the 6-year-old to baseball. We were a little late to the game because I went to the wrong location. Why? There are a lot of parks here that start with the name “Penn.” Normally they practice and play at the other one than they played at this weekend. Go figure. We made it eventually. My husband was doing his long run (training for a half-marathon next month) and met us there a few innings in. I went home, did my run (not long, as I am not training for anything), then we cooked steak for our family birthday celebration. We also had ice cream cake. The 15-year-old opened her presents, including a new suitcase and a guitar. She’s been working on playing it since!
(We actually have some great musical news in the family – both the 17-year-old and 15-year-old auditioned for and got into their school’s jazz ensemble, so that’s pretty exciting.)
A few of us went in the hot tub after — possibly one of our last nights of the season. It was chilly but nice to be out there. The little boys jumped in the pool for approximately two seconds (it is cold!).
Sunday I got up and went to church. We were singing in front of the church this time (instead of up in the loft), so there were added logistical elements. The service music included some spiritual and Gospel music for World Communion Sunday – always fun. I also appreciated that even with communion, I was home by 11:20 from a 10:00 service. Sometimes this has not been the case on communion Sundays but they ran a pretty tight ship this time!
The efficiency was good because the weekend logistics continued…We had a babysitter come and then my husband, the 17-year-old, and I dropped the 11-year-old at tennis and took off for Lincoln Financial Field and the Eagles game.
It’s always exciting to watch football live and this was true Sunday as well (I was really looking forward to this) but…the weather was not terribly cooperative (rainy) so we were in our raincoats and our legs just got wet. The game was also…well…I wish it had turned out differently. The Eagles were ahead basically until the last minute, and then they were not. And it turns out you need to be ahead at the end to win the game. So that was all disappointing. There were a few excellent plays, however, plus a beer and a hot dog in a stadium is always nice. And getting home was not quite as terrible as it could be (we park in the park near the stadium and by the time we got to our car and drove out the traffic wasn’t so bad — we got home in time for my husband to get to the gym on Sunday night.) Walking through the park there were even glimpses of fall leaves.
Anyway, I can now cross going to an Eagles game off my Fall Fun List – plus I set a goal to go to at least 3 local pro sports events this year and I have doubled my goal there. It’s a fun thing to do to feel like part of a place. Even if it does rain!

A somewhat random spot to leave feedback, but I would love to see more blog posts or podcasts on people’s time logs! I am SO fascinated, as I know many are, by how people spend their time. Maybe a round up post of the most interesting ones you have seen? Or suggestions of how others use their fee time and “odd” minutes. I find routines fascianting and generally enjoy looking at others very “real” weeks and time spent. It’s so refreshing in an age of unrealistic instagram posts, never ending tik toks, etc !
