Well, we made it. We moved the vast majority of stuff from the old house to the new house. With the beds and bedding in place, day-to-day life feels a lot more comfortable. We’re getting used to it. We’re also surrounded by approximately 200 boxes. But if everyone unpacked a box or two a day, we’d be through them in a month. Slow progress is still progress. Persistence is the key.
Anyway, many thousands of people have signed up to participate in my 2022 Time Tracking Challenge, which starts tomorrow at 5 a.m. If you’d like to sign up, you can do so until 6 p.m. eastern tonight. Of course, you can track time at any point, but that’s the cut-off to get the introductory email, and then the daily emails for this week.
I will be posting my time logs here daily. I haven’t quite decided if I’ll be aiming for morning or night but they will go up! And yes, there will be a lot of unpacking. And waiting for furniture deliveries and various contractors.
In the meantime, today is a cold and rainy day, with Friday’s slow turning to slush. In other words, really winter at its dreariest. So I’ve been pondering my Winter Fun List. This is things I’d like to do before spring to both make the most of the season…and survive the season. Here’s what I’ve got so far:
Go ice skating outside. The big kids all like going to the rink downtown. So we will go again!
Go sledding. We have a pretty impressive hill in the new yard. Friday’s snow wasn’t quite deep enough to make a good run of it, but the next real snow fall I plan to make good use of the hill.
“Light” fires in our fireplaces. We converted some of the old fireplaces in this (historic old) house to gas fireplaces (the house was built long enough ago that people were using them for heat, so there are a lot of them). Theoretically it should be easy just to turn them on. I even have one in my office!
Look at the sunset out the western windows. The previously described hill makes for some good sunset viewing. It will be great in any season, but when the trees are bare, the colors in the sky seem more stark. Especially when there’s snow. I’ve been taking a lot of pictures, but the pictures don’t really do it justice.
Soak in the tub. I put a nice soaking tub in the master bathroom, so it’s time to make use of it. If there’s snow on the tree outside the window, all the better.
Go to a greenhouse. There’s something quite lovely about being warm and seeing plants when it’s cold and snowy outside. I’ll likely aim for Longwood Gardens, but maybe somewhere else.
See some winter-themed art. I enjoyed finding depictions of flowers in the spring, so I’m going to aim to find depictions of winter. I already know there’s a great one at the Brandywine, so maybe I could combine that with Longwood…
Go to Florida. I’m planning to visit my co-host Sarah fairly soon, so this will be a nice escape from winter!
yay, I made the fun list 🙂 🙂 greatly looking forward to it!
@SHU- I am really looking forward to it as well!
What app do you suggest for time tracking?
@Marci – there are a lot on the market, though many are really repurposed billing software…Toggl has had good reviews so you could try that.
I joined the challenge and will be tracking my time for the first time ever! Your mantra about ‘no normal week’ really rings true because my week will start with taking my son to have tubes put in. So not a normal week by any stretch of the imagination! But hopefully we will get way more sleep going forward with no ear infections wreaking havoc on sleep!
A fireplace in your office…how cozy! Also, I can’t help but conjure up images of Frosty the Snowman when thinking about a greenhouse in the snowy winter. Great list!
