Swimming update + the list of annoying tasks update

The 6-year-old has been taking swim lessons this summer. We have a teacher come to our pool. He really needs to learn — and finally this summer there was some motivation. He had to wear swimmies at a pool party held at a commercial swim school and that was not cool since some of his friends did not.

The teacher had told him she wanted him to be able to jump into the deep end and swim to the side by a certain lesson, and he was very nervous about this. But he decided to try it ahead of the lesson and he did just fine! And he also practiced swimming the length of the pool and now he can do it. This is a big breakthrough.

Another breakthrough: I just got my volunteer application approved for the school district. (You have to renew every 5 years.) This was a long and tedious process. I know they do it for safety (I believe it is state required) but I feel like it mostly just deters people from casual volunteering. I had to restart multiple times and I am pretty good at navigating bureaucratic forms. Anyway, I submitted all required clearances, disclosure statements, etc., and they were approved.

I’ve been working my way through my list of annoying tasks. In recent weeks I have done my Global Entry application, a return for my solo 401k, some other financial paperwork, etc. Perhaps next week I will tackle getting my engagement ring resized. I’ve given up hope that my fingers will get smaller again. I mean, I might lose weight but I don’t think my knuckles are going to lose weight. I would like to be able to wear my ring again.

In other news: I’m working on a series of Before Breakfast episodes on themes from Big Time. If you haven’t picked up a copy of the book, please do! Ordering information and links to retailers are available at that link. I think you’ll like it.

I’m also planning on doing another September Reset/time-tracking project with a focus on evening hours for my next book (Golden Hours). If you have thoughts on what might make such a time tracking/evening improvement challenge most helpful for you, please let me know!
