Best of Both Worlds podcast: Puberty, perimenopause, GLP-1s, and more with Dr. Gillian Goddard

Dr. Gillian Goddard

Hormones have a big effect on our bodies, but many of us don’t know much about them. So today, we welcome Dr. Gillian Goddard, an endocrinologist, to Best of Both Worlds.

Gillian is the author of the brand new book The Hormone Loop. She has also been a prior Best of Both Worlds guest, and a longtime listener! In today’s episode, she and Sarah discuss hormones through the life cycle and talk about what we should know.

In the Q&A we discuss music practice — how and whether to enforce, how much, etc.

Please give the episode a listen! And please consider signing up for our Patreon community (Gillian is a member!). We’ll be having our next Zoom meet-up on June 17, when we’ll be discussing travel hacks. Membership is $9/month, and many members find this to be a great alternative to social media.

  1. What has worked for my family with music practice is attaching some kind of incentive to it, also known as a bribe. My 9-year-old has to practice 100 minutes a week over 5 days. He can choose when to practice during the day and he can split it up or do it all at once. He is not allowed to do all 100 minutes at one time. If he is able to do that for 2 weeks, then I buy him a book of his choice. So every 2 weeks he gets a new book. He loves to read so it works well. Honestly, I basically buy him a book whenever he wants it anyway! We’ve been doing this for the past few months and it’s been working great.

    1. @CZ – I like it. And as bribes go, buying books is a pretty harmless one since, as you point out, you’d probably do it anyway!
