This week’s episode of Best of Both Worlds was called “Is it spring yet?” and while no, it is not, there are little signs of seasonal change! I went for a walk in the snow yesterday — wearing boots — but the snow is a lot softer than the ice sheets we were living with for the past 3 weeks. And some parts are melted down to the grass. I forgot that walking outside could be easy!
And as I walked by the sunny spot where the first daffodils come up each spring I looked close and, sure enough, there were green shoots poking through the ground.
So, spring is coming. Over the next few weeks the daffodil stems will grow taller and then those flowers will appear. The hellebores (Lenten roses) should come up soon. Then the forsythia will bloom bright yellow. The plum trees will be some of the first to blossom, and the Yoshino cherries. I am very much looking forward to all of this. I am also looking forward to continuing to walk the same routes — it’s fun to see the same spots of nature over and over again to watch for these changes that are so familiar each year.

So nice to see those daffodils breaking through the ground! That feels very far off for us in Minnesota. We had a gorgeous weekend and lost most of our snow – and then got about 7″ last night. But at least it’s pretty outside? It’s almost better to have snow so the kids can sled and play outside… it just makes driving such a hassle!
@Lisa – we may get some more snow this weekend too – unclear. But hey, the shoots are coming up and now they will probably keep going. Winter can’t last forever. I hope.
The daffodils are emerging here in Virginia as well — but alas, they’ll be covered by the four to five inches of snow expected this evening. So two steps forward, one backward. But at least we’re moving forward!
@Lynne – yep, we just got the blizzard last night too. Sigh. Eventually.
