For a great many years, I exercised during the work day. This is time I knew I’d have childcare. As I’ve long worked for myself, I generally could.
However, as I’ve lately been trying to rework my schedule to allow for more uninterrupted work, I’ve been trying to rewrite some stories from the little kid years. The truth is, many days I can exercise from, say, 5-5:30 p.m. A quick run then is a great way to end the work day. It won’t happen every day, but that’s basically what I’ve done the last three days and especially with the spring light and weather it’s been good. The opportunity cost of this time is generally lower (I do run out of steam at some point…) and I’ve also realized that I don’t really want to get up early to exercise. I thought that with the later kid school start times this year I might but…nope.
So this is the new schedule tweak. We’ll see how it goes.
This week’s content:
Over at Before Breakfast I interviewed Jorge Cham, host of Science Stuff, on “productive procrastination” and that very important summer question — do you need to wait 30 minutes after eating to go back in the water? The shorter episodes covered topics including why we should “Plan and reflect together” and a suggestion to “Don’t contaminate your leisure time.”
Over at Vanderhacks, my Substack newsletter, I wrote about how to “Keep track of what you’re waiting for.” Even if the ball isn’t currently in your court, it’s wise to figure out when it might come back. I wrote about why people should “Get to know your backyard” and how to stop being late — basically, “Don’t do just one more thing.”
Behind the paywall I talked about “How to free up your schedule” and “19 ways to make life more interesting.” Last week (when I guess I didn’t do a content round-up!) I had a post on “How to survive May-cember,” which might be of interest.
This weekend my newsletter comes out — usually this happens Saturday morning. You can sign up in the box on my home page (where it advertises a free time management guide).
Thanks for supporting my work! I appreciate it.
