Best of Both Worlds has been around for 7.5 years now, but we’ve only had a few repeat guests. For today’s episode, Sarah and I are happy to welcome one of them!
Many years ago, Jessica Turner came on the show to talk about making space for fun in the “fringe hours” of life. She was writing books, blogging, and doing all sorts of creative hobbies on top of her full-time job with a health system. Then a few years ago, everything changed for her when her husband of many years came out as gay. They decided to end their marriage, and her new memoir, “I Thought It Would Be Better Than This” chronicles the aftermath of figuring out her new life, and co-parenting, and deciding to leave her job to focus on her own business, and (eventually) dating. In this week’s episode, we talk about these topics, and how to cope with life being different than you thought it would be.
Sarah and I also tackle the question of what kids can do with their own money. Should you say anything about their choices? I think there is a difference between something being wasteful vs. being offensive (you can still maintain wardrobe standards, for instance…).
Please give the episode a listen!
I prefer not to be the kind of spouse Matthew Turner was.
It appears to me that next year will be the 20th anniversary of Ms. Jessica Turner’s business “Jessica N. Turner”, formerly known as “The Mom Creative”.
I calculated the accumulated length of all 4 episodes that you recorded with Dr. Sarah Hart-Unger when you visited her in person last month, Ms. Laura Vanderkam, and found that they add up to about 2 and a half hours. I didn’t think that that was manageable, but yes, you did it.
