I’ve been logging my time continuously since April. It’s been interesting to see the rhythms of my life. Even though I’ve done this exercise many times over the years, and now for 9 months in a row, I am constantly learning new things about how I manage the 168 hours I have each week.
In any case, I’m doing a “7-Day Time Tracking Challenge” this coming week, January 11-17. I’ll be posting logs here, and discussing them on Facebook. I’d love company! You can sign up here to get daily motivational emails to help you as you’re logging your time. If you’ve never tried it, I recommend giving it a whirl. The first step to spending time better is knowing how you’re spending it now, and keeping a time log for 168 hours is a good way to figure this out.
Thanks so much for reading!
Hi Laura! I am currently reading 168 hours and would love to participate in this challenge.
@Priyanka- awesome, glad to have you onboard!
Hi Laura,
I am really excited about your challenge. Looking forward for the updates
@Rekha- here’s hoping it’s a good week!
OK, twist my arm 🙂 I’ve been wanting to track my time again with the new season of my kids being in school every day, so this is a good excuse. Excited to join you and see what I learn this second time around of tracking my week!
@Courtney – join us! This will be fun! (or at least enlightening…)
I always struggle to capture a whole week so it’s great to have a little extra encouragement. I know there’s no such thing as a ‘normal’ week but mine will include an international flight, and due to the time difference I will arrive 12 hours before I left…making Tuesday 36 hours long! I’m sure the blessing of a 180 week will be nicely balanced out with the time spent dealing with airplanes and airports and catching up on sleep… so to keep things simple I’m going to start tracking on Wednesday instead 🙂
@Lily- that works. I’m writing the new afterward for I Know How She Does It (paperback edition) and am including a time log from a week that was 169 hours (the clocks fell back). I don’t think I got that much more done though…
I’m so glad that we’re all doing this together! I tried a few times last year while reading I Know How She Does It, but couldn’t remember to write everything down. I hope I’ll find motivation and tips for time-logging. I’m doing it with a pen and yellow note pad — real cutting edge tech!
Hi Laura – I’d love to partake in the challenge, bu this week is kind of an off week for me. I’m going on a painting retreat (birthday gift) in CA from Thursday – Sun, so it’s not a typical week. Should I just skip it this week and try next?
@Francesca- up to you, of course. But the truth is there are no typical weeks. One reason I’m glad I have been tracking time as many weeks as I have is that I see what always happens, even on atypical weeks, and what things I think are typical…but aren’t. A painting retreat sounds awesome – wow!
Count me in!
