Friday bits and pieces

Today has gone remarkably well, considering. The baby was up from 4:45-6 a.m., but then I got back to sleep for another hour. I worried the extra nap from 6-7:20 meant he wouldn’t nap at the normal 9:30 a.m. time, and that would be a problem. In the “not taking my own advice” category, I arranged a phone interview at 9:45 a.m. on a day I have no childcare. While some people fall in the category of “OK to have kid noise” this was one I was hoping would not be interrupted. Fortunately, I saw the baby rubbing his eyes around 9:25. I got him down by 9:40. All good.

I also managed to get a weight lifting session in while my daughter had dance class at the Y. The baby seems to like the playroom, so in he went while I got a workout in. He fell asleep on the car ride home. I then used the first half of his nap to write thank-you notes with my daughter for her recent birthday. This was not exactly fun (I took dictation) but I made it slightly more enjoyable by adopting the “it’s 5 o’clock somewhere” philosophy and having a beer. If I’m not working, I’m going to call it the weekend already.

Various things this week:

Mommy Esq wrote a nice post about her new time management intentions after hearing me speak. As she put it, “Though the event kept me from sitting down to family dinner this week, I truly believe that it was one of the most productive events that I’ve been to in my adult life. I found answers to questions that I’ve been asking myself since before I started law school, and, for the first time in a long time, I embraced my schedule and life as completely within my control.” I think that quote’s going on my speaker marketing literature!

Sylvia Ann Hewlett mentioned me in a Huffington Post piece promoting her new research on how women derive great life satisfaction from powerful positions. Many women have it as a life goal to impact the world and it turns out that powerful positions allow you to do that.

Anne-Marie Slaughter tweeted about my WSJ review of her book – denying she was sneering at Sheryl Sandberg. Interesting…

I am doing a webinar on Tuesday, October 13 with Women in Real Life. If you’d like to listen in I have a few “passes” I can hand out.

I’m speaking at #BullCon in NYC on Saturday. Let me know if you’ll be there! It’s another full weekend but I think it will be a good one. I’m still working on my outfit for the Edison Talks in Chicago next week. I’m currently thinking dark jeans, a burgundy top, and black wrap (and my “special” heels).
