Just a few links before the weekend.
I wrote at Fast Company about “How to crush your next conference” — building your tribe in advance, or possibly leaving with a tattoo (or VC funding from Eric Schmidt. Take your pick!)
At CBS MoneyWatch, I write about how to “Create your own work retreat.” I plan to hole up in the library much of next week. We’ll see how that goes.
Here’s the Richard Thaler piece from the New York Times I mentioned yesterday on “Breadwinner Wives and Nervous Husbands.” His thesis: “Those men who spent their teenage years goofing off and their college years drinking beer shouldn’t be surprised that women who consistently received higher grades and continued further in school might now be earning more money as well. But the evidence suggests that while men tend to applaud their spouses when they help to bring home the bacon, husbands aren’t always as enthusiastic when women start bringing home the filet mignon.”
Erin Zammett Ruddy recently re-ran her essay on being “Pregnant with cancer” — which originally ran in 2009 when she was pregnant with her second kid — now that she’s expecting her third.
At The Happiest Home, Meagan Francis writes a piece called “Missing: One well-loved uterus” after her own recent cancer surgery.
And on a lighter note, MoneySavingMom posts about “Why I think you should break the blogging rules” — noting that blogging about your life can quite quickly take over your life. Favorite quote: “Can I just say this? I sort of despise Pinterest.”
