An early Golden Hours + content round-up

I am on the road tomorrow so I am posting my weekly round-up early! It’s been a slightly different feeling week with my 11-year-old gone. I am hoping he is having a good time – no news is generally good, though, and the first letter or two won’t arrive until this weekend most likely.

The garden is starting to produce. There are actual ears of corn (see photo). I’m not quite sure when those are supposed to be harvested. I have been picking cherry tomatoes — we’ve had some trouble growing bigger ones with them getting eaten (even behind fences, etc.) but the little ones do fine.

I gave a speech yesterday, which I think went well. This was a local one – about a 50 minute drive away. They wanted 20 minutes and I looked at the 20-minute countdown clock when I finished and it was at 0:15 seconds so I guess I executed on that!

Because it was a fairly “normal” summer week, my Golden Hours activities were pretty typical too. On Monday night I took the 16-year-old and 6-year-old into the pool, then read in my room for an hour after the little guy went down (a library book about maps). Tuesday was kind of stormy again, so I decided it could be a video night for the 6-year-old and I did about an hour on my puzzle. I bought a 500-piece beach scene because I don’t have that much time before I go to the beach and I wanted to finish it (normally I do 1000-piece puzzles – I’ll take one of those to the beach for downtime). Then last night I read outside for about 30 minutes, did 30 minutes on my puzzle and, after I put the little guy to bed, my daughter and I went out to the hot tub for 30 minutes. It was a breezy night so the warm water felt nice! No idea what I’ll do tonight but this is my nudge to think about it.

Content: I continue to do interviews on Big Time. You can hear/see me on Scott Danner’s High Performance L.I.F.E here.

(Haven’t picked up a copy of Big Time yet? You can do so here! Curiously enough, this time around I’ve sold more audiobooks than hardcover. I guess it is a change in how people consume this sort of content.)

Over at Before Breakfast, I interviewed Peter Winick about thought leadership. The short episodes covered “How to spend time with difficult people” and how to “Keep things short with natural end points.” (I guess after recent episodes about being more social I’m talking this week about limiting exposure to people you’re not that excited about!)

At Vanderhacks I talked about “How to build a better lunchbreak.” I also wrote about “7 things to organize before your next trip.” Behind the paywall I wrote about “10 tiny fixes that make your day feel lighter.” Please consider a free or paid subscription!
