Weekend: More snow and a wind chill

I feel like this blog is becoming mostly weather-related but it has been bad. My daughter and I have been having the same conversation that was in The Long Winter, where they muse that February is a short month and then March will be spring. Let’s hope. Less than 3 weeks from now it will be March, though as with The Long Winter, that is no guarantee of anything.

I woke up early on Saturday morning to bring my 16-year-old to the high school to take a bus to a robotics tournament. We were supposed to be there 6:45. It was dark, so I wasn’t really looking outside, but we were ambling out at 6:35 to get in the car and I was like…whoa. More snow! We hurriedly cleaned off the car and I abandoned the idea that he would drive us on the unplowed roads. This was not the time for driving practice. I slowly made my way down our steep hill and only skidded a tiny bit at the bottom, thank goodness. We were late but so was everyone else. While I was dropping him off, huge gusts of wind were blowing the snow, making total blizzard-like conditions.

While the snow stopped, the wind kept up all day. I took my daughter shopping at King of Prussia mall, and the walk from the parking lot inside was something. It’s hard to breathe with a wind-chill of -15! One of the Dick’s Sporting Goods registers was right by a big door and I felt so bad for the clerk working there — he was wrapped up in his jacket. We were mostly successful in our shopping, though, and had lunch at North Italia, which was nice. I had a margarita-like mocktail and squid-ink pasta.

Other weekend highlights: I met a friend for lunch on Friday and got a massage (I do that once a month through Massage Envy). I ran a swift-for-me 5k on the treadmill Saturday morning. I finished one puzzle (cartoon-like depictions of the world of Jane Austen) and started another. We hosted multiple playdates. I went to work in Panera for an hour on Sunday, but the point of doing that is that they have this cool fireplace…but it wasn’t going! Oh well. It was good to get a little work done to get ahead of the week.

We also did some Super Bowl foods for watching the game. My daughter made this amazing cheesy bread (pictured), which I decided to eat a bit, despite the dairy. Some things look worth it. I made my guacamole and that was good too.

Now I am looking forward to the temperatures rising north of freezing later this week. This morning was supposed to be the last morning of single digit temperatures. Hopefully until next winter!
