I put on my summer fun list that I wanted to go to a beer garden. I think this weekend’s activity was similar enough to count!
My husband and I went to the Philadelphia Zoo’s Summer Ale Fest. The Zoo invites in dozens of breweries and food trucks. You get a small cup at the entrance so you can go around and sample the beers. In between, you walk around the zoo. We’ve gone to some evening zoo events (like the Christmas lights) where the animals are not out and on exhibit. But in this case, they were. And since it was evening, a lot of them were more active than when we are normally there! So that was pretty cool. It had rained during the day but the evening weather was lovely. Definitely a summer highlight — so hopefully one it works to go to again in the future.
On Sunday my husband and I took the two little boys to the York State Fair. This is another event that has occasionally wound up on the summer fun list (or “go to a fair” more generically), though it didn’t this year. It was not quite as fun as the ale fest. The boys were a bit whiny about it, for unknown reasons, since we did some cool things. They both got to bounce on one of those bungee things where you go up high in the air. We watched a circus show. We saw cows and pigs and goats. We saw model trains and they cleaned up in the “candy warehouse” where you get a little basket and go select pieces of a zillion kinds of candy. They got personalized bobble head dolls at an insurance company’s booth. We lasted about two hours. Oh well. Maybe just the adults will go in the future. We like seeing the butter sculptures!
That zoo event sounds really fun! And it’s nice that the weather cooperated, too, and you got to see animals!
We had a whiney outing on Saturday, too. We took the boys to a local park and wading pool and there was so much bickering and whining! It was AWFUL! Luckily our outings on Sunday were much better and I pointed out how much more enjoyable they were since there was no whining/bickering (for the most part).
@Lisa – I know, the whining and bickering when you’re doing something that is FOR THE KIDS is the worst. I mean I said maybe my husband and I would go to the fair on our own but really it was for the kids. And they got to do so much cool stuff and were still not in great moods about it…
