This will be a weekend where the schedule is highly dependent on weather. There are several outdoor kid activities on Saturday; rain will shift all of these. I am hosting the church choir picnic on Sunday, but it might rain. Hopefully not right when the picnic is scheduled! Normally I’m a big believer in the “rain date” concept, but the choir takes off on our tour soon so it’s not possible to reschedule. I guess we’ll just have our picnic inside.
Anyway, here are links to a few pieces and podcasts this week. Over at Before Breakfast I did an episode called “Before you finish that first cup,” which advocates thinking through a “coffee project” — something short to tackle first thing at work. Then the day can go as it goes, and one can deal with the various incoming things. I also talk about how one can “Stretch the cadence” — doing recurring things less frequently as one way to save time. My longer Wednesday episode features an interview with Kathy Oneto, author of Sustainable Ambition. Please check that out!
Over at Vanderhacks, my Substack newsletter, I talked about “How to be reliable, even if life is complicated.” Some people have lives where more can go awry than others, but we can still do our best, given the circumstances. I also shared the advice “Don’t talk yourself into it.” In general, initial excitement is telling. It’s the things you’re talking yourself out of, because they’re a little past your comfort zone, that might be worth taking on. If you’re trying to talk yourself into it…maybe you’re not that excited. Behind the paywall I shared “How to get useful feedback” (possible even if people generally think you’re doing a good job!) and that “June is the Friday night of summer.” This essay is all about how to cultivate a weekend vibe, even during the work week.
