As people who follow The SHU Box know, over the holidays my co-host Sarah and her family all tested positive for Covid. Fortunately the kids have been asymptomatic and she and her husband had fairly mild cases.
Of course, as part of having Covid they needed to quarantine at their house. Keeping three young children entertained when they’re cooped up for an uncertain period of time (as the quarantine clock reset with each positive) is no small feat. In this episode, Sarah shares their quarantine chronicles — their day-to-day schedule, and how she’s feeling now (reasonable, thank goodness!)

Regarding the question, I take an “any port in a storm” approach. My husband is working fully from home for the foreseeable future. As a result he gets the office set-up in our bedroom. I only work from home twice per week, so I am relegated to whatever space I can find. I have a somewhat attractive box where I keep my supplies (lab requisitions, prescription pad, etc.). I grab that and my laptop and head to any empty room with a door in the house. I am lucky that my kids go to school so I have typically been working in my sons’ bedroom (there is a desk in there). However, I have worked in other bedrooms and our basement and at the dining room table (only when not doing telemedicine). Its not ideal. Now that working from home seems like a longterm thing in our house (even beyond covid) we plan to do new built in in a sunroom as part of a larger renovation and that will include a workstation, but until then what I am doing works.
Thanks for the episode! Regarding the question, we live in the SF Bay Area and many homes have garages converted into living space or a back yard shed/office. Depending on where you live, it may be a good option.
