Last week on the Best of Both Worlds podcast, I interviewed Sarah about her life (and middle school experiences). This week the tables are turned and Sarah interviews me. Find out about my middle school self, current family pets and potential ones, how I’d allocate a $1 million donation (and, as I got carried away, one with more zeroes). I also discuss my current reading obsession with all things Neanderthal. I know I’ve been blogging for ten-plus years, but maybe you’ll learn something new? Please give the episode a listen, and as always, we welcome ratings and reviews wherever you listen to your podcasts.
Laura, I had nearly the same middle experience as you! Was the math nerd since I was the only 7th grader doing high school math. But I think of myself as much more of a book worm and didn’t particularly like math. I also did cheerleading to be more popular… and quit shortly after because it did not make me popular and I didn’t like watching sports! I hope middle schoolers these days have a better experience 😉
@Florence – I am pretty sure that middle school is almost never a wonderful experience…
The math teacher program sounds so interesting. If my husband had been getting paid more as a math teacher, he would not have quit to get his MBA and start working as an accountant.
Also, I’m so impressed with your pronunciation of early human species names.
Loved this episode. I moved to a new place, which was very different culturally from where I was living, in the summer before sixth grade. It was a terrible experience. I also got placed in a GT program for one period a day with three boys…no other girls in the program. Looking back, I’m proud about that, but at the time I was embarrassed to be pulled out of the class and stuck with three nerdy boys. I was also such a homely child at the time – I distinctly recall one boy declaring me “the ugliest girl in the school.” Now that I think about it, maybe I haven’t worked through the psychological scars of junior high! It’s comforting to hear I’m not the only one who had a rough spot during that time!!
