Longtime listeners of Best of Both Worlds and Best Laid Plans may recall that, a few years ago, Sarah did a “Planner matchmaking” session for me. She suggested I try a Whitney English weekly planner as an upgrade from my generic notebook from Target. I did, and enjoyed using Whitney English products for several years (before she stopped selling the dated versions).
So it was exciting to have Whitney herself on the show this week. She has a new book out next week called Organize First, Decorate Second, which talks all about organization and style. Whitney approaches this topic from the perspective of someone who is incredibly creative and into beautiful spaces, and also has ADHD. Sometimes these attributes push and pull against each other, but she has lots of practical tips that work in her life and might work for others too.
In the Q&A we tackle that annual topic: bathing suits. What are some good options for people who want to look good but perhaps may also be chasing kids around the beach?
Please give the episode a listen! And if you’d like to discuss organizational topics more in depth, our Patreon community will be tackling home organization in this month’s meet-up.
If we’re going to evaluate how organized or disorganized my space is and if there are any edits that I’ll need to do to my space, I’ll need to take photos of my space. I think I can send these photos to you later on via email, Ms. Laura Vanderkam. I’m not sure when I’ll upload these photos onto Instagram, though.
And no, I did not anticipate that Ms. Whitney English’s editor insisted that Ms. Whitney English not being naturally organized was the reason why she needed to write the book.
I think I get what makes Ms. Whitney English conclude that glass, in a sense, has an enduring and repurposable value and thus makes the space photographable. Although I suspect that a counter that does not have anything – including glass – on it would also be clean and tidy.
On Ms. Whitney English’s main site, I found the planners listed to include “Day on One Page Planner • Antelope”, “Day on One Page Planner • Sointo”, and “Week on One Page Planner • Undated • Bella”.
While we’ve figured out that ADHD – which I prefer no one to have to deal with – is one of those “neuro non typical wirings”, I wonder if the term that you really meant to use was “neurodivergent” or “neurodiversity”, but later decided not to use those 2 terms as you’re not sure if everyone’s heard those 2 terms, Ms. Laura Vanderkam. But yes, I have heard of those 2 terms before.
