Mid-revision

revision

I finished (well, mostly) a draft of my next book a few weeks ago. It is not due until May 1st, so now I’m deep revision mode.

It took a little while to get excited about this. Revising something long is kind of a big project. But of course any big project is just lots of little projects. I made a list of what I actually needed to do (reorganize chapter 5! find someone new to include in chapter 7! write an intro! put in end notes! etc.) and I go through and check them off.

And now I feel like I’m actually making progress. I reorganized chapter 5 yesterday and will read through and tweak today. I’m not 100 percent sure how I’m going to get into the introduction, but I’ve got two months, so I can figure this out. Some interesting metaphor or scenario will present itself to me in the intervening time.

In the meantime, life keeps marching along. The weather this week has been spring-like. There are daffodil stems poking through the ground! (See picture — and this was actually from a little bit ago.) I think I will try to run outside this afternoon. I’ve also been checking medical to-dos off the list. I took 2 kids to the pediatrician for their annual well visits yesterday. Only 3 more to go! And then I took myself to my new practice this morning to get blood drawn for labs (I have an actual physical scheduled next week). I have not really wanted to have anything to do with the medical system after having five kids, but I suppose it is the responsible thing to do.

I am pondering going to the Philadelphia Flower Show this weekend — maybe all by myself! In many years past I have had some unenthusiastic kid with me. So now that people are getting older, perhaps it can be a solo adventure…

  1. I went for my first outdoor run yesterday. I hadn’t ran since probably late December so the run felt pretty hard and it was so awkward with my hand in the splint, but it still felt good to get out there! It’s been spring like here, but not to the extent that we have anything sprouting out of the ground just yet. Which is for the best because sure we have more cold weather and likely more snow ahead of us!

I have so many appointments next week it’s unbelievable. I now have weekly OT for my hand and then next week I have an ENT appointment and a preschool screening for my youngest, plus an infusion treatment for myself, and probably something else on top of that that I’m not thinking of. I color my doctor appointments in green on my work calendar and there is so dang much green next week! I almost never travel during the first week of the month since that’s a busy time for my husband at work so that’s when a lot of the appointments get crammed!

    1. @Lisa – it is so annoying to have so many appointments! Back when I was doing physical therapy for back it felt like my entire weeks were chopped up. Especially frustrating since for me it was inefficient and didn’t really work. I hope your therapy is much much better!
