I spent the weekend here with three of the five kids (#2, 4, and 5). #1 and #3 went with my husband to Indianapolis for…you guessed it…Taylor!
My husband wanted to see the show, and since his brother was bringing two of his children, and his mother and one of his sisters live in Indy, they could make it into a family visit. My daughter didn’t actually want to go to the concert, she wanted to hang out with extended family, so my husband and son went — probably one of few father-son pairs attending the Eras concert. They had a really fun time.
In the meantime, I was here with three of the boys (and the dog – another rambunctious little boy…). I had a dress rehearsal for the Durufle Requiem and then we sang it on Sunday morning as part of the service. It was really beautiful. On both afternoons I played outside with the little boys for quite a while – which was also beautiful. The leaves are truly gorgeous right now. We have a circuit of bike riding, trampoline bouncing, and tree climbing. It burns off some energy.
In other highlights, the 9-year-old had his first trombone lesson. He actually has the same teacher as the 13-year-old (trumpet) and I am always grateful for small efficiencies.
I spent today on the road with the 13-year-old going to see her eye doctor/potential surgeon (have not quite decided when/if this is happening – she had two surgeries when very young to correct a condition and they didn’t work) at Johns Hopkins. We have made this trip to Baltimore a great many times over the years, but she has grown up and become good company in the process. We sang a lot of Christmas songs on the way there and back, and ate lunch at Panera. They now have chili in a bread bowl, and I may be going there for lunch weekly now…
I hope everyone managed the time change well!
In other news: I enjoyed reading The Frugal Girl’s interview over at Optimistic Musings. Bloggers collide!

Wow, your family has really done this Taylor Swift tour with style! I had to chuckle that your daughter didn’t want to go a third time.
It was so much fun “interviewing” Kristen for my blog, and her answers were so thoughtful. I haven’t been reading her blog for very long (sadly), so it was a great way to get to know her better.
@Elisbeth – she’s only been once! I took my eldest (son) in May 2023, then my daughter in Paris in May 2024, and then the oldest went with my husband in Indy (Nov 2024). But the Paris one was almost overwhelming (floor “seats” with no chairs) so I think she was slightly traumatized, even though she loved it. Kristin is the best – I always love reading her blogs, and hey, if you didn’t find it 10 years ago, the second best time is now!
