Summer is (almost) here and while I really love this season, it does present some unique challenges. That is the subject of this week’s episode of the Best of Both Worlds podcast.
If your kids are like mine, getting them to bed when they don’t have to be up early for school is a bit of a struggle. (Yesterday, one teen had to clock in at 8 a.m. for a volunteering gig so that kind of sorted itself out, but another who is doing an asynchronous online class did not wake up until noon when I went to check on him…I kid you not.) We are having various bathing suit woes over here as my 12-year-old daughter has grown out of girls’ sizes but feels the women’s suits she can find aren’t “cute.” (I just wear some Speedos that I admit, aren’t that cute.) I am currently scratching three mosquito bites and I am not that happy about it.
Anyway, please give the episode a listen. We’d love to hear about your summer struggles and how you are dealing with them!
And in the meantime, if you happen to be reading this in the morning of the day I post it (6/18) and want to join the Best of Both Worlds Patreon group’s book club discussion at noon, there’s still time! We’re discussing Tara Mohr’s Playing Big, but there is no requirement to have read the book to talk about the topics in it. Membership in the Patreon community is $9/month, and we have a very active discussion forum.
Good morning. Swimwear woes are the worse. Some Australian surf brands might work. Seafolly, Roxy, Billabong etc. They have more kid friendly patterns/shapes but in teen/adult sizes.
I will have to check those out!
If anyone else has the struggle of applying sunscreen on wiggly kids, we recently started using a large foundation make up brush to spread sunscreen on toddlers/ preschoolers and it was game-changing. The kids love it so it makes the process way easier.
@Tatiana – ooh, interesting! That does seem like the kids might like it.
As a fellow shorts hater, I can’t recommend enough the tennis skirt and tennis dress. I’ve long been a dress person but wanted to wear shorter and airier dresses/skirts in the summer without fear of exposure. The tennis skirts and tennis dresses have been an AMAZING discovery!
I always buy athleta swimsuits and my girls (12 and 9) buy the athleta girls swimsuits. My 12 year old will likely fit the girls another year but the adult ones are pretty similar so I think it’s an easy transition.
For adult women- Miraclesuits! First time in years that I felt good in a bathing suit.
@VSH – good to know!
