Paperback plus new book news

9780143109723-mI have a few book-related announcements to make. First, the paperback version of I Know How She Does It will be out on January 3. This version has a new cover (see Rosie-with-a-watch, left), and a new afterward talking about my time-tracking journey. Pre-orders are always helpful for authors, so if you have been thinking about getting a copy, please use the links on this page. I really appreciate it!

Second, I am starting work on a new book! It’s tentatively called Off the Clock: Secrets of People with All the Time in the World. I’ll look at how some busy people manage to feel relaxed about time. How can the rest of us learn to feel like there is enough time for the things we want to do? It’s about shifting one’s mindset from scarcity to abundance. There will be both a quantitative and qualitative element to this book. I’ll have more details on participating in the quantitative survey later, but in the meantime, if you feel like you have a good relationship with time, I’d love to hear your strategies. As always, you can email me at lvanderkam at yahoo dot com. The book will be published in late spring or early summer of 2018.

  1. Congrats, Laura!! Both pieces of news are so exciting. I look forward to Off the Clock, or whatever it ends up being called!

  2. Really looking forward to the new book, although a long time to wait for it. Interestingly I bought a paperback copy of “I Know How She Does It” quite some time ago here in the UK, but presumably different publishing rights apply in different countries. The new cover is certainly eye-catching.

    1. @Katherine – well, I do have to write it first!! Yes, the book was released in paperback originally in the UK – but not in the US. they did about 18 months of hard cover here. Publishing is sometimes funny. Hopefully people will see the cover and pick it up…

      1. Ah, i wondered why it was already available on book depository! (my preferred stockist, as they have free shipping. Amazon usually have exorbitant shipping fees to Australia).

  3. I’m so excited for your new book, and I love the topic! Can’t wait to read. I have learned SO much from you when it comes to time management, and it’s completely changed how I structure my life. Special needs parenting has also taught me a lot about time management – or how to feel like I have time for what is most important. Specifically: 1. my time is as valuable as everyone else’s. I used to take any doctors’ appointment or therapist session, thinking these people are super busy with super full schedules. Now I have the mindset that if it’s not convenient for me (ahem, during nap time? That’s a mistake I’m not making again), I ask the receptionist for more options. 2. I don’t procrastinate. I try to get things done – or at least started – right away, because I never know when an illness or health need might pop up that demands most of my time and attention and energy. 3. I have more power over my day than I sometimes I feel like, even with my kid’s health care must-dos. I have the control of figuring out what works best for me and my family and coordinating my day accordingly.
Thank you for helping me to see my days from the “thriving” side instead of the “overwhelming” angle 🙂

    1. @Courtney- thanks so much! And thanks for these great tips. Of course, the receptionist probably leads with the time that’s best for the office, but there may be other options. It doesn’t hurt to check.
